Romantic-Bohemian-Shabby Chic Purse

July 31, 2017 by Cyndee 2 Comments

This bag is new this week in my Etsy shop.

I’ve been working on some ideas that use my vast hoarded supply of vintage linens, trims and assorted crafting bits. I love the shabby chic look of this purse.

The construction and embellishments on the purse were all sewn either with my machine or by hand. No glue was used. It probably would have been easier to use glue for a few of the embellishments, but I decided to challenge myself and gave myself a “no-glue” rule.

The “no-glue” rule was not a simple decision. My fingers were in pain. I had just finished sewing patches on my brother’s leather motorcycle vest.  While a lot could be done with the machine, there were a lot more places that required hand sewing to prevent stitching pockets closed. Let me express loudly…HAND SEWING LEATHER IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! Seriously, any sewing project that requires pliers to pull the needle through should be avoided. The expression “Blood, sweat and tears.” makes so much sense now.

Even the lace rosettes and leaves were hand sewn.

Large back pocket.

Large inside pocket.

The handle on this purse is super long which I think gives it a bohemian feel. The bag could also be worn cross-body, has a large flap and a button and loop closure.

I’m in the process of working on another, a few other styles and a few different projects that also use my fun stash of frilly bits.

Enjoy!
