Words of Wisdom Window Signs

3-DSCF3505Words of Wisdom Window Signs

I’ve been enjoying the windows that Middle Kid gifted me with a couple of weeks ago.

I saw a similar sign to this one on an HGTV show (my new addiction-Fixer Upper) and have been itching to replicate it on a window.

1-DSCF3496I painted the frames black so they will really “pop” on a wall.

2-DSCF3493It took me a bit of time to size, cut, re-size and re-cut the words for stencils on my Cricut until I had a fit that worked with the window, but I finally nailed it.

3-DSCF3505Just like the frame, the lettering was done using black paint. I love, love, love the way it turned out!

I now have two of these posted on local (to me) Facebook selling pages. If you live close (Winfield, Ks.)  and are interested, message me.

Enjoy!

Living Room Wall-Sneak Peek

1-DSCF0952My new living room wall.

I may be going overboard on how to decorate without leaving damage on my walls, but it’s been over 25 years since I have rented a home and I don’t want to leave a mess behind.

FYI-Ignore the ugly, outdated sofa. I’m not even going to give you a full shot of it. My husband had purchased it at an auction that I did not attend. (face palm) I DO NOT like it. It’s also too big for the space we have right now, so I’m pretty sure it will not be sticking around for much longer.

Off to the storage unit I went. With a basic vision in mind, I brought back an old door, an old window frame, a mailbox and a miniature metal bicycle that had lived in a flower garden at our old house.

2-DSCF0939The door was much too short to be visible as art behind the sofa and I was not going to hang it on the wall. It would have required wall anchors which would have made big ugly holes I didn’t want to leave behind. To remedy the height issue, I built “L” shaped legs on the bottom of the door.

3-DSCF0943The door stands on the legs behind the sofa.

4-DSCF0947The window frame had no glass in it, so it was very light. Two thin finishing nails was all that was needed for it. I thought about painting both the window and the door, but I really liked the old, weathered look.

5-DSCF0949I did paint the mailbox and bicycle to coordinate better with the arrangement.

The rest of the items were decor items I had used in my old home.

Enjoy!

Crochet Pears

6-DSCF0154Crochet Pears

New listing in my Etsy shop. This listing is a crochet pattern.

I’m finally reopening my Etsy shop. It has had to go on the back burner for the last couple of months. Boo Hoo! I hated that it was empty.

Fixing up and selling a house is exhausting!

My time has been limited on making several of one item for Etsy, packaging and getting them to the post office, but I have had some down time in the evening when I could experiment with new crochet designs. I decided to write the patterns up and list them in my shop.

I’ve sold patterns through Etsy before, but Etsy has this cool new way of doing it. Customers used to purchase the pattern, an email was sent to the shop owner informing them of the sale, then the shop owner would email the pattern to the customer. Now Etsy has instant digital downloads. As soon as the customer purchases the pattern, they can download the pattern. The shop owner is still informed, but the customer doesn’t have to wait for the shop owner to notice a sale was made. Way cool for someone who has too many things going at one time!

DSCN4077I also relisted my Granny Infinity Scarf Pattern, and more patterns will be showing up in the next day or two. I can’t wait to show off my Country-Western Bowl Fillers, and the cold weather has inspired a few warm accessories.

Enjoy!

Shabby Chic Birdcage Knockoff-Tutorial

6-DSCN4564
I love looking through home decorating magazines, home interior stores and high-end department stores, but I’m realistic enough to know the closet I will get to owning any of that beautiful eye-candy is if I make it myself.

This shabby chic birdcage is my knockoff of one I found while window shopping one day. I can’t remember the name of the store, but I can remember the cage was $45. Now some of you may not think $45 is too much for a decorator birdcage, but my frugal, do-it-yourself brain said “No way!”

1-DSCN4523

I tucked that inspiration away in my mind and while looking for something else in the barn, I came across a similar shaped birdcage. It was perfect. It had come from the Dollar Store, but it was green and decorated with wire vine and metal ivy leaves that I didn’t like.

I wanted my cage to resemble the one I had seen, so the vine and leaves had to go. That process was surprisingly easy to accomplish. I just tugged tham off. The parts that were stuck came off with the help of wire cutters. Easy Peasy! I immediately loved the difference that made.

I then sprayed the entire cage (inside and out) with a light layer of white spray paint. This was mainly to get into all the corners and the peak of the inside of the cage. I wasn’t trying for full coverage. I just wanted a jumping off point for the layers that would follow.

2-DSCN4526

The cage at the store had cool decorative embellishments on it, so I got out my bag of brass doohickeys.

1-DSCN4527

I simply wired them to the cage using craft wire.

4-DSCN4556

Using an old paintbrush I pounced and dabbed flat off white acrylic paint over the whole cage (inside and out).

After that dried, I repeated it with a coat of flat white acrylic paint.

5-DSCN4558

I was loving it, but it just didn’t look shabby enough yet, so I got out the sandpaper. I sanded everything.

Ta-da!

6-DSCN4564

Check it out! If you look closely (inside the cage) you can see one of the nests from yesterday’s tutorial.

Enjoy!

Recycled Book into a Flag Decoration

I love free projects. I didn’t spend any money on this design. All the supplies were already in my craft room. You can find the tutorial here.
