The Medallion

July 29, 2014 by Cyndee 5 Comments

The MedallionThe newest addition to my living room walls.

1-DSCF1661My son and I went to a few yard sales last week and I found this fantastic metal medallion. It was only a dollar!

2-DSCF1662I wasn’t crazy about the brassy shine, but that wasn’t anything that spray paint couldn’t fix. I had a can of white primer that worked wonderfully.

4-DSCF1677After it dried I gave it a soft sanding. This distressed the grooves and ridges perfectly. I love it!

5-DSCF1708I dug through one of the storage units to retrieve a shelf…then I added a cool birdhouse and a bucket to finish the arrangement.

I was going to put silk hydrangeas in the bucket, but I couldn’t locate the ones I know I have. Oh well, they will show up eventually.

Enjoy!

Living Room Wall-Sneak Peek

May 13, 2014 by Cyndee 6 Comments

1-DSCF0952My new living room wall.

I may be going overboard on how to decorate without leaving damage on my walls, but it’s been over 25 years since I have rented a home and I don’t want to leave a mess behind.

FYI-Ignore the ugly, outdated sofa. I’m not even going to give you a full shot of it. My husband had purchased it at an auction that I did not attend. (face palm) I DO NOT like it. It’s also too big for the space we have right now, so I’m pretty sure it will not be sticking around for much longer.

Off to the storage unit I went. With a basic vision in mind, I brought back an old door, an old window frame, a mailbox and a miniature metal bicycle that had lived in a flower garden at our old house.

2-DSCF0939The door was much too short to be visible as art behind the sofa and I was not going to hang it on the wall. It would have required wall anchors which would have made big ugly holes I didn’t want to leave behind. To remedy the height issue, I built “L” shaped legs on the bottom of the door.

3-DSCF0943The door stands on the legs behind the sofa.

4-DSCF0947The window frame had no glass in it, so it was very light. Two thin finishing nails was all that was needed for it. I thought about painting both the window and the door, but I really liked the old, weathered look.

5-DSCF0949I did paint the mailbox and bicycle to coordinate better with the arrangement.

The rest of the items were decor items I had used in my old home.

Enjoy!
