I Love My Friends!

June 22, 2011 by Cyndee 7 Comments

Recently I struck gold twice!

The first time was when a local crafty friend of mine was moving. She decided she didn’t want to craft anymore. I didn’t believe her, but I also wasn’t going to look a gift horse in the mouth. She offered me her supplies really cheap.

I knew it was a down-sizing type move and she would be getting rid of a lot of stuff. I have issues with my own craft room and am constantly cleaning, purging, and stressing over space issues. I figured I would be okay to take a look, because I really didn’t think she would have a lot of stuff she was willing to part with. OMG, was I ever wrong!!

I took my husband with me to help keep me in check just in case. Lot of fat help he was! Forty dollars later and  my Explorer was stuffed with supplies. The wheels are turning.

The funny thing is, a lot of it really isn’t what most people would consider craft supplies, but everything is right up my alley. If I found them at yard sales and auctions I would have bought them myself for sure.

There were several metal dome-shaped lunch boxes,

A box of small galvanized chick feeders,

Felt erasers from an old school house,

Lots of vintage suitcases and train cases.

She also had a chenille bedspread, cupboard doors, huge gourds, small iron stars and a small wooden wheel barrel. She also had good-size, wooden craft cut-outs, rusty metal doodads, plus a whole lot more that I packed inside the suitcases to get home.

Okay, I said I struck gold twice. The second time came a week later. A friend came to visit from out of state.

She gifted me with several vintage quilts that her mother-in-law was getting rid of!

There was also a shoebox full of 1-inch fabric squares. I am assuming thet were intended for a postage stamp quilt. Well, that’s not happening at this house, but I am sure they will work themselves into quite a few projects.

Beside the shoebox is a half-finished wedding ring quilt top. I’m not sure about the red, but the remaining pieces for its conclusion are all there.

Another treasure was a shoebox full of pieced Scottie dog appliques. This photo is of projects in progress. You can find the full tutorial for for the appliqued table mats here.

Enjoy!
