End Table/Coffee Table Shabby Chic Transformations

October 7, 2013 by Cyndee 3 Comments

5-DSCN6964Shabby Chic End Table

1-DSCN6935This end table is similar to one I did a few months ago. Made from a portion of an old vanity, this one had only one drawer.

2-DSCN6940Unlike the other one, I didn’t need to add a backing to the top edge. I did, however, need to replace the side panels. They were just too warped to save. I used the drawer bottoms from a couple of drawers I didn’t need for my dresser/bench project.

3-DSCN6957The paint used was the same as the headboard peg rack.

5-DSCN6964It also got the same shabby chic sanding technique.

4-DSCN6960There wasn’t a handle, and finding one with matching screw holes proved fruitless. I went with a larger handle that had a back plate that would cover the old screw holes.

9-DSCN7001Shabby Chic Coffee Table

DeskThe coffee table was crafted from what I believe to be an old desk. It was rather tall, so I’m not a hundred percent sure of that.

6-DSCN6989The legs were shortened and everything was tightened up.

The only thing good about the drawers was their fronts, so I removed the box part of the drawers.

7-DSCN6994The paint treatment was the same as the end table and the peg rack…

8-DSCN6997…as well as the shabby chic sanding technique.

I then permanently attached the drawers to the drawer slots.

I had each piece priced separately at last weekend’s craft show, but a customer bought all three as a set. Score!

The entire show was a complete success.

Enjoy!

Vanity to End Table

June 19, 2013 by Cyndee 11 Comments

08-DSCN6424Vanity to End Table

02-DSCN6396You may remember this “vanity” from my birthday junking adventure. It’s actually one side of a vanity. The other side of the vanity, the table across the center and the mirror…, well, they just weren’t there. That didn’t stop me from seeing the potential in the one side that I had though. There were a few obstacles…

03-DSCN6399The first obstacle was the gap on the top back edge. On a full vanity, the mirror would have fit into this gap. I had to cut off a small chunk on the end so that the gap reached all the way across the width of the vanity.

01-DSCN6393I dug through my barn stash and found a shelf with a pretty scalloped edge.

04-DSCN6400The thickness of the boards were just the right fit for the vanity gap. I took the shelf apart…

05-DSCN6410…cut it to size, set it in the gap and attached it.

06-DSCN6415The next obstacle was the groove that ran down one side. I think a panel must have been attached in the groove. I found some old trim in the barn and cut and attached a piece to each side of the vanity so that it was uniform.

There were also a few colorful words scratched into the sides by a previous (and probably adolescent) owner. I had to sand quite a bit more in these areas.

07-DSCN6422I removed the handles and painted everything green.08-DSCN6424A little sanding to shabby it up. I reattached the handles, but I replaced the two knobs on top for something I thought matched better. I don’t think the old knobs were original to the vanity anyway.

The drawers slid in about 2 inches to far. I added small blocks behind the drawers to stop them at the edge of the opening. You can’t see this little detail, but it’s there.

Lastly, I papered the bottom of the drawers with wallpaper that coordinated with the paint color.

Enjoy!

Gunny Sack Chair

June 2, 2013 by Cyndee 27 Comments

5-DSCN6221Gunny Sack Chair

I feel like I’ve been in end-of-the-school-year-graduation mode for so long. Now that it’s over, I’m ready to get my crafty groove on. Last week’s junking adventure was the perfect push I needed. I’ve been painting and creating like crazy this past week.

1-DSCN6195This chair was one of the first junk transformations I tackled from my new treasures.

It wasn’t anything special to begin with, but I did like the frame. The covering on the seat and back wasn’t very inspiring.

2-DSCN6203I removed the seat and back portions, then painted the frame using flat white paint.

6-DSCN6223A little sanding gave the surface the perfect amount of distressing.

4-DSCN6215I came across this stash of gunny sacks when I was digging out things for decorating the graduation party. I didn’t use them for the party, but after painting the chair, I knew how I would use them.

5-DSCN6221Reupholstering the seat and back went very quickly with the aid of an air compressor staple gun.

I love the way it turned out. I’d like to keep it, but I quickly took it down to the store so as not to tempt myself. Hopefully it sells quickly. 😉

Enjoy!

Americana Desk

March 22, 2013 by Cyndee 20 Comments

6-DSCN5523It’s Spring!

Well, sorta. The calender says it’s spring, but Mother Nature can’t seem to make up her mind. Last week we actually had 80 degree weather. This week…not so much. In fact, snow is being forecast for the weekend. Ugh!

1-DSCN5490Oh well, I’m moving forward. Spring usually means pulling old treasures out of the barn for restyling and that’s what I’m doing.

This desk is what I pulled out when the weather was warm(er). It was unfinished and it had a few structure issues hardly worth mentioning. They were a quick fix.

2-DSCN5508I decided to go Americana, so I painted the entire desk blue. I thought the paint was navy blue, but it turned out to be more royal blue. No problem. I planned to age it.

3-DSCN5509I traced the writing surface of the desk on paper, then traced my crafty version of an American flag on the paper. When I was happy with the layout, I retraced the flag on the desk.

4-DSCN5517Then I painted. Painter’s tape helped keep the stripes crisp. A stencil was used for the star on the blue field.

5-DSCN5524Sanding distressed the desk surface and edges, and pecan stain aged the desk.

6-DSCN5523Enjoy!

French Country Stool

January 24, 2012 by Cyndee 3 Comments

Another “Do You Remember”.

These chairs were posted in “Just Junking” in June. Check out the one in the middle with the broken seat.

A little reconstruction and I had a completely different piece.

French Country Stool

Hope it inspires.
