Headboard Restyle to Country Chic Shelf

July 22, 2014 by Cyndee 6 Comments

4-DSCF1671Headboard Restyle to Country Chic Shelf

1-DSCF1401I bought this shelf from a friend a few years ago. She said it was a headboard, but that’s not what I saw. I envisioned rows of hens tucked cozily in nests laying eggs. Okay, I didn’t really plan on putting chickens in/on the shelf, but that’s what it reminded me of.

2-DSCF1666After cleaning, sanding and securing a few of the vertical dividers that were floating kinda crazily above the middle shelf, I dry brushed the entire thing using white paint.

3-DSCF1668My stash of salvaged chicken wire was the perfect addition for the back of the shelf. The wire was also brushed with the white paint.

I moved the hangers on the back of the shelf because their location didn’t make sense to me. The way they were attached meant the headboard would have been hung with the long slanted side on the bottom. A slanted shelf headboard with a gap on the bottom and no back would have just frustrated me.

4-DSCF1671No problem. My vision had the slant on the top like a roof. Perfect for a stenciled country sign.

Enjoy!

Quickie Transformation-Spindle Shelf

3-DSCF0883Spindle Shelf

1-DSCF0773I think everyone has had one of these shelves at one time or another. Outdated? Yes, but not without possibilities.

A simple change is all I gave it, but it made quite a difference.

2-DSCF0778A coat of light green, then sanded for shabbiness.

3-DSCF0883But I wasn’t finished. I mixed white and green paint, along with white pearl. After watering down that mixture, I washed the whole surface. I still wasn’t completely happy with the outcome, so I added one last layer of white dry brushing.

Enjoy!

Restyled Banana Republic Displays

June 5, 2013 by Cyndee 1 Comment

7-DSCN6173Restyled Banana Republic Displays

1-DSCN6193I bought several of these “racks?” a little over a year ago at a yard sale. The lady selling them told me they were old displays from a Banana Republic store. I have no idea what they displayed on them, but she sold them to me dirt cheap, so I couldn’t pass them up.

2-DSCN6166They sat gathering dust in the barn until last week when I went looking for wood to use for racks. These displays were perfect! The construction was all done! I love projects that are half finished even before I get started.

4-DSCN6188I didn’t want them all to look alike…

5-DSCN6207…so I painted some white, some green, some yellow and some were dry brushed with white paint.

6-DSCN6209I sanded the painted racks to distress them.

3-DSCN6167The dry brushed racks got an application of stain to age the surface.

Old door knobs were added to the racks for hanging and I added hanger hardware to the backs. I’m not sure what happened to the photos of all the finished racks. Hmm…I’m SURE I took pics.

7-DSCN6173Oh well, I did have this one.

Enjoy!

Wall Shelf-Restyled

March 30, 2012 by Cyndee Leave a Comment

After my last painting project, I decided I needed something easy-peasey.

I had picked this shelf up at a yard sale last summer. Not terrible, but I could tell it was one of those items that was purchased in a box, and put together with those funky screws that click into something when you turn them ‘just so’. I don’t like the screw heads. They are big and annoyingly obvious. Camouflaging them is what I was going for…Not sure if I succeeded, but I like the way it turned out anyway.

I painted the shelf using a light green paint I had on hand. I them sanded all the sharp edges to give it a worn look.

It wasn’t quite there yet. Finally, I randomly dry brushed a light touch of white paint to the outside of the shelf. Sanding the entire surface blended it all together.

All done! And I didn’t spill a thing! 😉
