Chair Back Snowman Family

Time to show you what I did with those old chairs I showed you a couple of weeks ago.

Chair Back Snowman Family (Chair 1)

Chair Back Snowman Family (Chair 2)

They were chairs I salvaged from “The House“.

They were too rickety to actually be used as chairs, but I loved the spindles and their back story, so I just had to come up with something that would allow them to give a few more years of enjoyment.

I used a jigsaw to cut across the seat. The glue that held the legs in was pretty much gone, or was just a powdery consistency. It took no effort to simply pull the legs out.

The chair with the “solid” seat was cracked. It must have been that way for years, because someone had attached a board across the seat on the bottom to keep the split together. Since this board kinda created legs to one edge of the cut seat, I added another board to prevent the chair back from tipping over.

The other chair back needed no alterations. I was ready to craft.

I painted both chair backs using off white wall paint that I had picked up at a yard sale for next to nothing. Since the wood was pretty old, it soaked it up pretty good. A few coats were necessary.

The inner spindles became the snowmen. The amount of spindles inside the chair back frame determined how many snowmen were in the family.

I added pine garland around the frame…

…and scarves around the snowman necks.

So, are you inspired to go dumpster diving?

Party On!

I WAS FEATURED!!! :)

Sorority Craft Show

I’ve been getting ready for the Sorority Craft Show in Arkansas City, Kansas tomorrow. It’s located in the Ag building (affectionately known as the pig palace), and is open from 10:00am – 3:00pm.

As usual, if a treasure wasn’t nailed down (and sometimes even when it was) I glued, painted or stitched it into a restyled treasure. The following are a few of my new projects I crafted for this show.

Timber Snowmen

I just love these frosty guys. I’m not sure why, but they remind me of little cowboy snowmen. Must be the log shaped bodies.

Reindeer Bed Springs

I try to come up with a new bed spring craft every year. This seems to be the year of the reindeer. In this picture they weren’t attached to the springs yet, but they have since been completed.

Star Santa Pillows

Another one of those projects that had my sewing machine beeping like a bomb.

Polka Dot Rocking Horse

Just a little peek at a restyled wooden rocking horse. I’ll have more on this transformation in a later post.

A bowl of glittered bulb ornaments. I never, never throw anything away.

Chenille Bedspread Candy Canes

Tobacco Can Snowmen

More Mini Rag Wrapped Candy Canes

These were made from the wire tent stakes I had mentioned before.

Shutter Snowmen

These chairs are just a sneaky peak at a project I will be posting about soon.

Most people would probably have tossed these old relics, but I am glad I didn’t. Can’t wait to show you what they became.

If you are in my neck of the woods tomorrow, come visit me at the show.

New Crafts for the Craft Show

And away we go! This week I’ve been working on things for my first craft show of the season. It’s at The Last Run Car Show in Arkansas City, Kansas this weekend.

In previous posts I mentioned last weekend I had a yard sale. It was a great sale, but don’t let nobody tell you that having a yard sale is easy money. It’s a lot of work! I have muscles that ache where I didn’t even know I had muscles. Needless to say, I would much rather shop a yard sale than have one. Since we didn’t get through everything, and we have stuff left over, hubby says we definitely need to have another one before the snow flies. We’ll see.

In preparation for this craft show coming up, I have been stitching, painting and gluing just about everything I can get my hands on.

Door Greeter Suitcases for Halloween (Thank you, Opher, for the great name suggestion!)

Snowman Snow Shovels

Pumpkins, pumpkins….

…and more pumpkins.

Even Gourd Pumpkins…

…and Shovel Pumpkins.

Crows

Cup of Cocoa Tree Ornaments

Fall Hubcap Wreaths (Hey, it’s a car show!)

I also made License Plate Ornaments.

Measuring Spoon Ornaments

There is lots and lots more. We packed the trailer at the store last night. If you are in my area this weekend, stop in and check it out.

UPDATE: The show was fantastic!

Christmas All Through The House

****Two weeks before Christmas and all through the house,

Scents and sights of the season filled the rooms and pleased the spouse.

The stockings were hung on the buffet with care.

Oh well, no fireplace! I will not despair.

Above the entertainment center was festooned with charm. With no mantel, it couldn’t do any harm.

The snowman decor was stuffed into a birdcage, and I was writing my Christmas lists as another year turned a page.***

Yep, that’s all I got for that parody. I have been thinking about these two weeks remaining before Christmas though. There is so much to accomplish in a short amount of time. I can happily say I am miles ahead of where I was a week ago. The decorations are mostly complete and the pile of baked goodies is making me very happy.

But, all is not calm. I still have masses of Christmas shopping to do and Christmas gifts I really want to craft. So…in keeping myself on track, I am posting a few of my Christmas tutorial links. They are, of course, frugal and fast, as I know everybody is in need of quick, inexpensive holiday ideas.

Country Christmas Decorating

Donna may cringe if she sees my results, but I was inspired by her December 5th post on Funky Junk Interiors. I live in a 100+ year-old farm house in the Midwest. The rooms are small, and I don’t have a fireplace. My entertainment center (predictably) serves as my living room’s focal point. I use the top as my “mantel”.

This is the way it looks the other eleven months of the year.

I worked on a (failed) project to fill the wall, but I just didn’t have the items I was envisioning in the garage. The freezing temps and windchill prevented me from shopping the barn. I had a brainstorm, but I needed to run to the shop where I store my finished crafts. In the meantime, I created the “landscape”.

I added a wreath and a bit more greenery to the birdhouse.

Lastly, (drumroll please) the finished masterpiece! The window frame is the added piece I needed from the shop, and the barn star was already in the room, just in another location. No, my display is not all natural, nor all rustic, but it’s not supposed to be a copy of someones else’s work, just my interpretation of the idea.
Okay, Funky Junk Donna does it much better, but she inspired me to use the junk I already have. And, I like it. That’s really what matters.
I do love her blog and ideas, but the inspiration I am drawing from her is using things I already have to create a display. I am using things that I have out everyday, incorporating a few of my garage/finds, my crafts and Christmas decorations I normally use, but never have in this way.

I didn’t notice any snowmen, Santas or other Christmas characters in her displays. I love my collections, so that will probably never change. I did find a fun way to display my snowmen. The ladder tree on her post gave me the idea. I have a large decorative birdcage that I stuffed a tree into. I then squeezed my snowmen between the branches.

I love it, and a big plus is…the cage takes up a lot less real estate than the way I used to displayed my collection.

Thanks for the wonderful ideas, Donna!
