Shabby-Antiqued Cupboard

7-DSCF4396Shabby-Antiqued Cupboard

1-DSCF4040This cupboard was a find my youngest son brought home to me.

2-DSCF4042It had fabulous bones, but it was very blah. Just perfect for a restyle.

3-DSCF4230I started with a layer of light green paint, then continued with several coats of white.

4-DSCF4384I sanded it into yummy, shabby chic submission. I knew I would be sanded it after painting, but I had no idea if the green paint would be visible in the end. It was, but you have to look very, very close.

5-DSCF4385Not satisfied with the amount of green actually showing, I painted a green medallion on top and to the front of each door.

6-DSCF4391I completed the cupboard with an antiqued finish.

Enjoy!

Patriotic Funky Chicken

10-DSCF4146Patriotic Funky Chicken

Sometimes you just gotta let your funk fly.

1-DSCF2218I haven’t done anything with albums since I made my snowmen signs last year, but my pile of vinyl has been calling.

01-DSCF4069A couple coats of tan paint created the background and then a line traced horizontally across the record, just above the center formed the top of the chicken’s body.

02-DSCF4074With the area above the line masked off, I stenciled white paint to fill in the body.

03-DSCF4076Masking off lines, I was able to stencil 5 red stripes. I also painted a triangle shaped beak using a yellow/gold paint.

07-DSCF4150The wing and the tail feathers were cut from aluminum beverage cans.

08-DSCF4152To give them a texture, I rolled them through my cuttlebug before painting them.

04-DSCF4080They were attached with wire after I painted a rough brown outline around the record, along the stripes and around the beak.

06-DSCF4086I drilled a couple holes at the top for attaching a fabric hanger…

05-DSCF4081…and a couple of holes on the bottom for attaching wire chicken legs. The legs were painted yellow/gold.

A white paint pen was used for writing “Liberty”.

09-DSCF4154Lastly, I spattered the entire surface with blue and white paint.

10-DSCF4146I kinda like the way he turned out.

Enjoy!

Octagonal End Table Restyle

5-DSCF3829Octagonal End Table Restyle

1-DSCF3778This little gem was found at a yard sale this past weekend. It was quite a score as they were practically giving it away. Why was it such a score? Well, it was barely standing on its own. It had missing screws and screws that very loose. It also had a few chips on the underside of the tabletop that needed to be filled. Lastly, it was filthy and in need of a thorough sanding.

I was tickled once I had it completely repaired and prepped for painting. I could actually see the ugly duckling turning into a swan.

2-DSCF3815I chose black paint for the base and tan for the tabletop. I love it so much I might be using that paint color combination a lot more.

4-DSCF3823As always it still needed a little more something-something. I cut a fleur-de-lis stencil using my Cricut…

3-DSCF3819…and stenciled it using black paint in the center of the tabletop.

6-DSCF3830A light sanding on top of the table and a rougher sanding on the legs created the finishing touches to this restyle.

Scrap Wood Shamrock Signs

2-DSCF3176Scrap Wood Shamrock Signs

This project really took on a life of its own.

I sell lighter, smaller things on Etsy, mainly because bigger, heavier things are more expensive to ship. So what do I do with the furniture and wood things that I make when I am not doing craft shows?…I sell them on Facebook.

Facebook has several local selling pages for people that want to sell just about anything. I post a picture of the item, describe and price it. When someone is interested, they contact me and I send them info on where to pick it up.

1-DSCF2844A customer that bought one of my scrap wood hearts a few weeks ago asked if I would be making anything for St. Patrick’s Day. Honestly I hadn’t even considered it. With the cold weather and snow I was pretty sure it wasn’t going to happen, but then last weekend there was a few hours that were almost spring-like. I knew it wasn’t going to last so I gathered and cut wood to make signs.

1-DSCF3162Construction…

5-DSCF3189…and painting could be done indoors.

4-DSCF3181I made four and posted them on Facebook…and WOW! Within a couple of hours I had sold all four and had orders for nine more.

Who knew St. Patrick’s Day was such a popular holiday!?!?!

Making the extra orders was not as much fun. We didn’t get a lot of snow, but the wind managed to pile that small amount of snow around, on top of and in every crevice of my wood pile. I was about frozen by the time I pulled out the wood I needed for the signs. Then, of course, there was the time I spent freezing in the garage while I cut the boards.

4-DSCF3186Since the wood was in the snow, it was pretty wet. I went ahead and built the signs, but then I had to allow them to air dry overnight before I could paint them.

7-DSCF3197When they were dry, the assembly line really got moving. I made five more than I needed to fill orders because I knew we were in for more frigid weather and the idea of digging for more wood was/is definitely not appealing.

Enjoy!

A Western Revival

5-DSCF1295Western Revival

1-DSCF0959If anything needed revived, it was this nightstand. The paint color and application was…um…interesting. Now I can’t say I don’t like green, after all, I just used a similar shade on the eaves of my shutter birdhouses, but this shade did not appeal to me. Actually I cursed this awful paint color as I sanded and sanded and sanded and…

Have I mentioned how much I hate to sand? The worst part was the drawer sides. Yep, they had been painted green and were causing the drawer to stick and stutter. Technically I could have lightly sanded the sides and painted over the green sides, but in our Kansas humidity it would have continued to have a sticking issue. I ended up completely sanding off the green from the sides of the drawer.

2-DSCF1283That was enough of that! The rest of the nightstand got the light sanding and new paint painted over the old. A barn red paint started the western revival. I still battled the humidity, though. After overnight drying, the nightstand was still tacky. I rubbed it down with baby powder to draw out some of the moisture, then I mixed a little P of P into my paint and gave it one more coat. The surface felt much better.

3-DSCF1288I added a few stenciled stars to the top of the nightstand for more western charm.

4-DSCF1292The old knob just didn’t seem “western” enough, so I added an iron star and bronze/black knob.

Enjoy!
